
The main function of social security affiliation is to incorporate a person into the social security system and, therefore, guarantee their access to the benefits and services it offers. Affiliation is mandatory for people who perform a work activity that includes them in the system.
The registration of companies and workers is initially simultaneous. It occurs through the presentation by companies of the requirements listed in the attached sheet.
The person who performs work or provides services to another under an agreement or contract, and who receives a salary or remuneration in return.
The person responsible and obliged to carry out affiliation, as well as to communicate the registrations and terminations of people who enter or cease their activity, is the employer, as well as to pay the contributions inherent to said affiliation act.
For self-employed or AUTONOMOUS workers, the responsibility for doing so falls on themselves.
Affiliation must be carried out promptly at the start of work activity, no later than the eighth day.
Terminations are communicated by letter providing the requirements listed in the attached sheet, at the end of the employment contract and from the first fortnight of the month following the effects of the termination of the contractual relationship.
In simple terms, private sector workers are all those who work in companies or organizations that do not belong to the State.
Self-employed (or liberal professions) are people who work on their own account, without being employees of a company or the State.
Public sector workers are people who work for the State, local authorities or public establishments. In other words, they provide services on behalf of the State, often paid with public money (taxes).
